OUR STORY of Caring
A DECADE OF CAREGIVING & COACHING
I work with clients across the world from across every socioeconomic, class, gender, and age range. The tools in my programs have helped over a thousand clients repair their relationships, understand themselves better, reduce conflict, eliminate guilt, and allowed them to move forward with a happier, healthier life.

MEET JESSICA
Take Care was created to offer accessible, science-backed coaching, inspired by my own experience as a family caregiver. For over a decade, I've served as a caregiver and professional coach building structures and process to support healing and resilience.
In each Take Care moment, I help you find balance, maximize resilience, and navigate the stress of caring for a loved one during a prolonged illness.
NO ONE EXPECTS to become a caregiver
The story begins with an unexpected diagnosis. Sound familiar?

Within weeks, the world changed. My mother and I were launched into the scary, unknown world of cancer treatment and all the sudden changes it brings. I (lovely daughter) became full-time caretaker and Susan (awesome mom) became the reluctant patient. For the next several years, we faced ups and downs of treatment, the push and pull of a morphing relationship, and the unexpected growth that treatment demands from everyone in its wake.

No one really teaches you how to be a caregiver—or a patient. We both found that the general advice from hospitals and cancer groups was well meaning, but didn’t have much to do with the lived experience. Cancer blogs were dangerous emotional territory—full of personal first-hand accounts of the pain of treatment and then, of course, loss, but nowhere did we find concrete answers as to what to expect and how to prepare. So, we started fumbling towards the happiest, easiest, most joy-filled cancer treatment possible. We stumbled. We succeeded. We stumbled again. We both took lots of notes and pondered each week how we could improve upon the experience. (Yes, my former life was in organizational management (think user experience and event planning.) I couldn't help myself.) So we refined and reviewed, failed and fumed, succeeded and celebrated.

After treatment concluded, I made a major career pivot and became a professional coach with the world's largest coaching start-up. Over the last several years I've had the honor of working with nearly a thousand clients from across the world. The foundations you'll find in our programs, coaching, journals and membership are all steeped in my education, experience and training. They have also been client-tested in real life.

The Take Care process and Tool Box Method are built on the strong foundation and client success. In each program you'll benefit from years of wisdom bundled into the knowledge I wish we’d had at the very beginning: Coaching and courses about the real, lived experience of care-taking. It looks NOTHING like all those schmaltzy TV movies, let’s be clear! It is one of the most human experiences you’ll ever have.

The process of healing and tending is overwhelming. Our mission is to remove some of the burden and give some space as you do the important work of taking care.
We Take Care of You,
So You Can Take Care of Them
WE ARE ON A MISSION
To Change the Care Conversation
Take Care Academy is on a bold mission to:
-
change the conversation about care;
-
provide care coaching with real-life, empowered, actionable advice;
-
show up for carers to offer support and encouragement;
-
create a public space for caregivers;
-
celebrate and support caregivers (& patients!);
-
and re-frame the role and experience of caregiving.

We are modernizing caretaking and making space for caregivers.

I hope you'll join the movement.

Caregiving is the hardest - and most human - thing you'll ever experience.

Because there wasn't a guidebook --
until now!
Because caregiver burnout is real, painful, and puts carers
(the majority whom are women) behind emotionally and economically.
WHY CARE COACHING?
For too long, caregivers have been expected to give everything, but at the same time vanish. Vanish in to the background, in to the illness, the patient, the process of healing. And most of us aren't given any training, nor any tangible ways not to lose ourselves to the enormous task of caring for a loved one.

Through coaching, classes and community we bring a new version of caregiving to the table. No matter where you are in the caregiving experience, we are here to help lighten the burden and offer a road-map for care, while a caregiver.

Caregivers deserve understanding, support and strategies as we embark on one of the hardest -- and most human -- experiences in life. In order to bring our best and preserve our own well being, we need a place for conversation, community and connection.
